Plastics

As part of its committment to the protection of the environment, Chorlton Central Church has set up a smale scale recycling scheme for plastics.

At the moment plastic bottle banks will only accept drinks and similar bottles. This is not because the plastic cannot be recycled, but because sorting the different types of plastics reduces the profitabiity of recycling. However the technology for sorting plastics is developing and we can now offer plastic recycling facilties to members and friends of Chorlton Central Church.

What can we accept ?

Any clean, dry, stiff or rigid plastic product

...what can't we take ?

  • Cling film and other flexible films
  • Dirty or wet plastics
  • Plastic items incorporating other materials (for example, inkjet cartridges)

...and how do we use this service ?

Bring clean dry plastic products along to any service or meeting at the Church; a cupboard has been set aside in the Worship area for plastic storage pending collection. This is not currently a public facility.

Marking of plastic types on products is not compulsory but manufacturers are increasingly using this system in anticipation of future legislation.

The lettering below the symbol may be;

PET (polyethylene terephthalate)
HDPE (high density polyethylene)
PVC (polyvinyl chloride)
LDPE (low density polyethylene)
PP (polypropylene)
PS (polystyrene)
