Carbon Calculator

copyright Carbon Footprint Ltd and RADsite

Calculate your carbon footprint here - you may be surprised by the results. This is an individual calculation.
The footprint of your home is divided by the number of people you live with - everything else is specific to you.

Before you start, assemble the following information;

  • total annual fuel bills for your home (cost in £ or consumption in kWh) for each fuel used at home - this will be divided by the number of people to give an individual result. If you or another person works from your home you may wish to make deductions for work related usage
  • your personal annual car and/or motorbike mileage and engine size(s)
  • your personal destinations and number of air flights
  • your approximate personal mileage by each type of public transport (you will have to estimate this)

Don't worry too much about exact accuracy - carbon footprint calculations are rough estimates

You will also be asked questions about your lifestyle ('secondary' carbon emissions) - you will know the answers to these questions - but it may be interesting to put in alternative answers to lifestyle choices to see how much effect these might have !

Chorlton Central Church accepts no liability for the results of Carbon Footprint calculations and does not endorse carbon offsetting measures offered by Carbon Footprint Ltd.

Carbon Offsetting

Carbon offseting can offer an interim solution for concerned individuals and businesses. Before buying offsets, you calculate the quantity of carbon you emit by flying, driving or using electricity. You then pay for a project that reduces carbon emissions by this same amount. Since greenhouse gases circulate freely in the atmosphere, this project can be located anywhere in the world.

Carbon offsetting will not stop climate change, although on a sufficiently large scale it may help to slow the pace. The overall need is for world carbon emissions to be cut. However not all emissions can be cut immediately, or even in the medium term. Offsetting can mitigate carbon emissions which are currently unavoidable. Offsetting should not be used as an excuse to avoid lifestyle changes; where possible carbon emissions should be reduced, rather than offset.

Carbon Catalog is a website which lists and rates carbon Carbon Offset providers and projects, and is a good place to start. Click here to visit Carbon Catalog
