Haikus
The Haiku form originated in Japan about 760 AD and in the 14th Century was used as a game at parties; one person created the first line, others would add the second and third. Apparently the literary quality often reflected the amount of rice wine drunk ! A Haiku is a short poem composed of a fixed number of syllables, most having 17 syllables in a three line 5 – 7 – 5 pattern.
These Haiku were written by participants in a Cafe Church event at Tom Toms in May 2007, focusing on Water, and could be used as prayers or meditations.
Life-giving water
nurturing, refreshing, cool
blessed baptism.
The water of life
your body and my body
tied to the planet.
Rain soaks through dead earth
working Easter miracles
flowers from your grave.
